"Again" is a song by American rock band Alice in Chains and the third single and sixth rail from their cocky-titled 1995 album. It peaked at No. 8 on Billboard'south Mainstream Rock Tracks chart,[3] and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Difficult Rock Performance in 1997.[4] The song was included on the compilation albums Nothing Rubber: Best of the Box (1999), Greatest Hits (2001), and The Essential Alice in Chains (2006). A remixed version of the vocal was included on the box set Music Bank (1999).
Release and reception [edit]
"Again" made its radio debut in February 1996,[1] and peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in the week of July 6, 1996.[iii] It as well peaked at No. 36 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.[v]
The song was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Hard Stone Functioning in 1997.[iv]
In the liner notes of 1999'south Music Depository financial institution box set drove, guitarist Jerry Cantrell said of the song:
This guy, Praga Kahn, did iii different mixes. One I didn't like, the second one (Trip hop Mix) had horns and strings without likewise many guitars or drums, which I kinda liked. Then there was [the "Tattoo of Pain Mix"], which was cool as well. We put a couple out every bit "B" sides in Europe. Personally, I never got used to the idea that y'all had to give some places extra songs and non others, information technology should exist the aforementioned for everybody as far as I'm concerned.[half dozen]
Music video [edit]
The music video for "Once again" was released in March 1996,[vii] and was directed by George Vale.[8]
The music video was nominated for Best Hard Rock Video at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards.[ix]
The video is available on the dwelling video release Music Bank: The Videos, and is the final Alice in Chains music video that Layne Staley filmed with the band (the "Go Born Again" music video released in 1999 featured only archived footage of the singer).
Live performances [edit]
"Over again" has been known to be performed with vocalist Layne Staley five times. They performed the song for the get-go on the TV show Sabbatum Night Special on April 20, 1996,[10] and besides for their appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman on May 10, 1996.[11] The vocal was also performed during three of the four concerts that Alice in Bondage opened for the reunited Osculation in belatedly June and early July 1996.[12]
A live performance of "Once more" can be found on the live anthology Live (2000).[xiii]
Since reuniting with new singer William DuVall in 2006, "Again" has go a regular role of the band's setlist.[12]
