Huawei Band 3 Pro Continuous Heart Rate Not Working

If the heart rate detected by your HUAWEI wearable device is inaccurate, please find below different scenarios and solutions.

  1. Inaccurate heart rate during workouts
    • Some sports or exercises, such as basketball or weightlifting, involve rotating your hand a lot, while a large force is being exerted on your wrist.

This may affect the signal received by the heart rate sensor of your device, causing the data to be less accurate than during normal workouts (for example running, walking or cycling).

    • Also, the low measurement frequency and the small number of samples may cause the heart rate to be less accurate than during running or Other workouts.

If so, we recommend to adjust the way you wear your device, start a normal workout and then try to measure your heart rate several times to see if it returns to normal.

    • During training, the wearable device shakes or moves on your wrist, affecting the quality of the heart rate signal.

Various exercises generate different noise signals, but the algorithms for each individual workout mode improve the signal quality and make the heart rate measurement more accurate.

To avoid incorrect heart rate readings, we recommend to select the same workout mode as your actual training when starting an exercise.

    • The heart rate displayed by your wearable device may change significantly after finishing an intense workout. This is normal and does not indicate an issue with your device, as your heart rate tends to decrease after an intense physical effort.

Also, emotions, talking, standing up or a slight change in the position of your watch/band may affect the measurement, causing fluctuations in your heart rate, even when you check your heart rate multiple times within a short period of time and under the same conditions.

    • If you are a fitness enthusiast and you work out frequently, we recommend using a strap made of silicone rubber for an optimal contact between the device and your wrist and for more accurate heart rate data.

    • Sweat or foreign objects may interfere with the heart rate sensor of your device, causing inaccurate data readings. In this case, wipe off sweat from both your watch/band and its strap.

Wear the strap tightly and make sure that the back of the device is clean and dry and there are no foreign objects between it and your wrist.

  2. Inaccurate heart rate when standing still
    • Make sure you wear the device correctly, with the screen facing upwards and slightly away from the wrist bone.

Fasten your watch/band securely on your wrist, with the strap on tight, to prevent the device from sliding up or down and thus improving the heart rate measurement.

    • When you measure your heart rate, avoid moving or shaking your wrist, so that your device gets more stable and accurate readings.

Also, we recommend enabling the Real-time option for Continuous heart rate monitoring.

To do this, open the Huawei Health app and go to Devices. Select your wearable and go to Health monitoring. Enable Continuous heart rate monitoring and choose Real-time.

      Step 1

      Step 2

    • The heart rate displayed on your wearable device is compared against the professional standard (ECG), and the acceptable tolerance is ±10 bpm.

We recommend using a heart rate band or other professional devices for comparison.

  3. Inaccurate heart rate in special circumstances
    • When suffering form a heart disease, the heart rate displayed by your wearable may be different from that displayed by a medical device.

This is due to the fact that medical devices and wearable products have different measurement principles. While your watch/band uses light to monitor the pulse (and it can be affected by the ambient light or slight arm movements), medical devices use cardiograms and an arterial pressure meter (sphygmomanometer).

    • For more accurate results, please measure your heart rate when you are still.

We work continuously on optimising the software to improve the accuracy of heart rate measurements, so make sure you update both your device and the Huawei Health app to their latest versions.

    • Also, medical devices and wearable products measure the heart rate at different intervals.

Medical devices measure the heart rate once a minute on average, while your watch/band normally measures the heart rate in real time. You can calculate the average heart rate measured by your wearable over the course of one minute and compare it with the heart rate detected by your medical device.

If the average heart rate is lower than 37 bpm, please do not take into consideration the data displayed on your watch/band. In this case, we recommend using your medical device to check your heart rate.

  4. Inaccurate heart rate while swimming
    1. Your wearable device monitors the heart rate through the built-in PPG sensor, which detects the way the light wavelength changes after being reflected off your skin

The sensor may not be able to detect the reflected light in certain scenarios, for example when swimming in open waters which are not clean. In this case, the heart rate data may be inaccurate or it may be missing altogether.

If so, clean the back of your device and wear it securely, than check if the heart rate returns to normal.

  5. Inaccurate heart rate in a cold environment
    1. In a cold environment, the blood flow in the capillary blood vessels on the wrist changes.

As a result, the sensor cannot obtain a clear signal of your heart rate and the registered data may be inaccurate. If so, please wear gloves or long sleeves while measuring your heart rate in a low-temperature ambient.

Also, warm up for 5 minutes before starting a workout; finish the training and then compare your heart rate with the one before the exercise.

  6. Inaccurate heart rate after reset
    1. Your wearable device resets the heart rate every day, at midnight, to facilitate new periodic measurements.

If no heart rate signal is detected after the reset, the watch/band will display a default value (88 bpm or, for people with a low heart rate, 54 bpm).

This value is not your actual heart rate and it does not affect the accuracy of the heart rate measurement.

  7. Updating your wearable device
    • We are working constantly to improve the accuracy of the heart rate measurement.

Each new released software version has undergone rigorous testing and features optimised algorithms. However, due to differences in the heart rate signal received by the sensor, the heart rate displayed may vary from one version to another.

When the heart rate signal is good, the measurement is more accurate and the results are similar for different software versions. However, a poor signal quality may also affect the hear rate measurement.

Please make sure that both your wearable device and the Huawei Health app have been updated to the latest versions.
