Youtube Subscription Feed Not Working 2018

I have no intention of ripping on YouTube on a regular basis.  It was their anti-rights and anti-freedom policies concerning firearms content that initially led to me create this site, but most of the authors here, myself included, still post our content to YouTube, and most of the users of this site are subscribers to at least one of the authors there as well.  I don't want to see YouTube fail, I want to see it change.  It appears the next change may be coming soon, and it is quite possibly a negative change.

YouTube's latest shenanigans involve messing with the Subscriptions feed.  They've recently started testing a new "feature" where they rearrange what shows up at the top of the Subscriptions feed based on what they believe you will most want to see, rather than the current method of chronological order.

"We are currently experimenting with how to show content in the subs feed," a YouTube representative stated on May 22, via Twitter.  "We find that some viewers are able to more easily find the videos they want to watch when we order the subs feed in a personalized order vs always showing most recent video first."

The current system, which arranges the feed by chronological order, allows the user to see all the most recent videos from a creator that they haven't watched yet.  I just checked to verify, and this is still how my Subscriptions feed is arranged.  I have not experienced "the subs feed in a personalized order" in my subscription feed yet, but it is certainly possible that after testing, YouTube will make this change to all accounts.  Apparently they've been experimenting with the new format since February 2018, and, in theory, will let YouTube users decide if they want to view their Subscription feed in a personalized or chronological manner.  That remains to be seen.  Have any of you noticed this change in your subscription feed yet?

I've included a small sample of some articles and videos available that speak about this situation, and highlight some of the potential problems that this can create.

Here's a one minute video summary of the situation:

The following video is 15 minutes, but it's a great discussion of this test "feature", and of the current state of YouTube and social media in general:

I want to highlight a few of the statements from this video:

  • "Now YouTube can make your channel completely invisible, even to your own subscribers."
  • "The fact that biased NGOs are now involved in the flagging programs…is also extremely concerning."
  • "They will soon begin targeting Super Chats before too long."
  • "For many years now, YouTube has not been a safe and viable platform in general, not just for political videos, but because of it's 'guilty until proven innocent' flagging system."
  • "Though our dependence as content creators on YouTube, and to a certain degree YouTube ad revenue, is still a serious problem, we also have to take action ourselves and branch out to other platforms, even if they aren't as polished as YouTube yet."
  • "The time for complaining is over. It is time to build, and build elsewhere."
  • "It appears those alternative free speech networks are becoming increasingly vital in that battle of ideas."

YouTube's experiment with 'personalized feeds' is angering creators, viewers – 'The final step in removing any control users have over content they see'

YouTube subscribers aren't happy about the new feed

  • "YouTube is optimizing itself for views – more views, as many views as possible, at all costs. It begins with the changing of the chronology of the videos in YouTube subscriber feeds. This is real, it's happening, and for some users it's already happened. Instead of acting as a platform, as it should, YouTube is turning into Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. It's becoming awful."
